How do I format pictures to make them web-friendly?

My fonts and layouts have all changed when someone else looked at the site.
When I tried to work on a few pages, some of the information got mixed up.  What did I do wrong? I can't edit the page/My toolbar won't install.
Will you be adding new images to the Theme section? I can't get into the editing space to make changes - my cursor won't go there.
How do I single-space my text? Do we have to call you if we want to add pictures to a site or publish the site?  Or can we do that ourselves?
How do I put pictures on my site that I received via email? Can other people viewing our site make changes to it?
How do I change the background color of my site? Should we put personal information about our church staff and members on our site?
I clicked 'Edit this Page' but my editing window didn't pop-up.

When I look at the site (somewhere else) the layout is all wrong.

Can I adjust the order my pages appear in the navigation bar?

1) How do I format pictures to make them web-friendly?

In your photo-editing program, you will need to change the resolution of the image to 72 dpi (dots per inch), or a low-medium file size.  This is important for minimizing "load time" of the images on your site.  Change the image size (dimensions) to no more than 200x300 pixels - about 1.5 x 2 inches.  This is important for making the image easier to manage on a web page.  All images must be saved as either .gif or .jpg files to save in the Webmedley Media Library.

2) When I tried to work on a few pages, some of the information got mixed up.  What did I do wrong?

Most likely, you attempted to move from one page's Edit View to another without closing the Edit screen.  Only one Edit View can be open at a time.  Be sure to always close the Edit View when you have completed revisions on one page before moving onto another page.

3)  Will you be adding new images to the Theme section?

Yes, we periodically add new images to the Theme section, as well as new designs, to the Webmedley Management Console.  They will be added into your account automatically.

4) How do I single-space my text?

Simply hold down the "Shift" key when you hit "Enter" and your text will single-space instead of double.

5)  How do I put pictures on my site that I received via email?

First you will need to save the images (in a web-friendly format) on either a disk or on your computer.  Then you will be able to upload the image into your Media Library.  Images cannot be cut and paste onto a page.

6) How do I change the background color of my site?

You can change the background color of your site primarily by changing the Color Scheme options in the Layout View.  Your color scheme options will vary depending what Design you choose.

7) I clicked 'Edit this Page' but my editing window didn't pop-up.

You have probably left an Edit screen open.  Only one Edit screen will appear at a time.  Look at your Windows Taskbar - the pop-up Edit screen is most likely minimized.  Click on the window to maximize it, then close the window.  Then click "Edit this Page" on the page you want to work on.

8) My fonts and layouts have all changed when someone else looked at the site.

Most likely you used a unique font on your web page which is not on all computers.  If another computer does not have the font, it will appear in a similar font that is present on the computer.  The best way to keep a consistent look to your site on all computers is to use a common font throughout your site, such as Verdana, Helvetica, Arial or Times New Roman.

9) I can't edit the page/My toolbar won't install.

Most likely, your version of Internet Explorer is not current.  You must have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher to edit any pages.  (In IE, go to Help -> About Internet Explorer to check your version.  Upgrade at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.) If your toolbar is still not installing correctly, make sure that your toolbar version is compatible with your version of Windows.  Toolbar v. 1.0 is for Windows 95 users.  Toolbar v. 2.0 is for Windows 98 and newer systems.

10) I can't get into the editing space to make changes - my cursor won't go there.

If you have a solid line border around your content area in Edit View, you most likely are using an old version of Internet Explorer.  You will need to upgrade to IE 5.5 Service Pack 2 or higher at .

11) Do we have to call you if we want to add pictures to a site or publish the site?  Or can we do that ourselves?

You can manage all images on your site and publishing on your own.  There is no need to contact us to make these changes.

12) Can other people viewing our site make changes to it?

No.  Only people that have user names and passwords for the Webmedley Management Console have the ability to make changes to your web site.

13) Should we put personal information about our church staff and members on our site?

That is entirely up to you.  Most churches will publish names, email addresses and photos of church staff and/or members on their website.  If you are concerned about security of members, consider not using last names, or not putting home phone numbers or addresses on the site.  We also now have a password-protection upgrade for Webmedley, where member information (such as a directory) may be stored.

14) When I look at the site (somewhere else) the layout is all wrong.

Variations in layout are typically due to older browser versions, such as Internet Explorer 4 and below.  There may also be some variations in layout when viewing web pages in Netscape or AOL browsers.  Mac computers will also have some variations.  Although your web page will be visible on all browsers, it is best to view web pages through a current version of Internet Explorer.

15) Can I adjust the order my pages appear in the navigation bar?

You can reorder pages on your website by moving pages from one "layer" of navigation to another by using the "Document Parent" pull-down menu, found by clicking the "Advanced" button on the Layout View.  Also, the "Comes After" pull down menu allows you to reorder pages which are located in the same level. More information.
