Hints and Tips - Custom Headers

The template system built into WebMedley allows anyone to have a professional looking website with minimal effort. It provides you with hundreds of different combinations of layouts, color schemes, and images to use in your website's design with no more needed than a couple clicks. However, WebMedley also offers you the ability to personalize your site even more by adding your own custom header to your site. Adding your own header to your site (assuming it looks good) adds another level of personalized and professional excellence to your site. WebMedley makes it very easy to do. Question of the Week - Creating a Link

Q.) How do I create a link to other pages in my Web site or to other websites?

A.) To create a link, follow these instructions:

CREATING LINKS:

  1. On your content editing screen, select the text or graphic you wish to be the link. (i.e. In the case of "Click here to go to our Youth Page," you would highlight the words "Click here" or perhaps just the word "here".)
  2. Click the "Insert Link" button on the toolbar. It resembles a planet with a chain in front of it.
  3. In the Hyperlink box that appears, confirm that the type is "http:" (If you wanted to create an email link, you would select "mailto:" as your type.)
  4. In the URL field (the second field in the Hyperlink box) type the address of the page you want to link to. Start the link with "www" and place it after the "http://". The address for a webpage can typically be found in the 'address' field of your browser near the top of the screen when you are on that page. (If you do not see an address field, you may have the address bar disabled in your browser. You can check by clicking on VIEW and then TOOLBARS.)
    • In the case of creating a link to another page on your own website, you will need two pieces of information to create the link, the domain name of the site (ex. www.yourchurch.org) and the webpage file name (this can be found in the 'Advanced" features on your layout editing screen for your webpage (the screen where you choose colors, designs, themes, etc.). So, an example of what an address would look like for a youth page you had created and renamed the file name to "youth.html" would be http://www.yourchurch.org/youth.html.
    • In the case of an email link, you would see "mailto:" in the URL field and you would simply put in the email address you want to link to after the colon.
  5. After placing the address in the URL field, click 'okay'.
  6. Unselect the text or picture by clicking anywhere on the screen - your newly created link should now have a familiar blue color and underline.

NOTE: Your links will not be active on the editing page. They are disabled on purpose. Otherwise, if you clicked on them, you would leave the page you were editing and lose everything you hadn't saved. The links will be functional after they are published. To check a link, click on the word or graphic and click the "Insert Link" button again. It will show you the link that has been assigned to that word, phrase, or graphic.
